The International Festival of Ecology and Tourist Film, Silver lake Tourfilm Festival, was founded by the decision of The Municipality of Veliko Gradište, early in November 2008, and was entrusted to the Tourist Organization of the Municipality to manage it.

widest possible sense of the word, the Festival is open for Cultural Tourism films, films on wine, on big and famous holy places, Sports films, etc. Renowned museums, wine cellars, monasteries and holy places, spots events… nowadays attract as many tourists as spas, ski centres, the Mediterranean islands, and exotic destinations do. The development of tourism is nowadays related to ecologically clean areas, so a question is inevitably raised about the ecologically sustainable development of tourism worldwide. Therefore, there is a relation between these two important categories at the Festival. |

Although it takes place for the very first time, the Festival has already got the ITCO licence (International Organization of Tourist Press) and immediately become a part of the large family of similar festivals taking places for many decades all over Europe and world, from Chile to China. |

The founder of the Festival is the Municipality of Veliko Gradište, a picturesque small town on the bank of the Danube, located 115 km from Belgrade on land, and 130 km on the Danube. Besides the indisputable beauty of the longest European river that is almost 2 kilometres wide near Veliko Gradište, the host of SILAFEST can boast of the old Fortress of Ram, the monasteries of Nimnik and Tumane, the nearby Fortress of Golubački grad, Viminacium and Lepenski vir. Nevertheless, the greatest tourist attraction of the Municipality is the famous Silver Lake, which Silver Lake Tourfilm Festival was named after. |

This year’s SILAFEST will take place from August 30 to September 5, and besides the competition part of the programme, which is expected to have about sixty films in the official selection, there will be a range of associated events organized, related to ecology and tourism. The film directors from the country and abroad, producers, journalists, directors of sister festivals from all around the world, tourist workers… will all have the opportunity to enjoy Pasuljijada - a competition in cooking beans, a competition is cooking fish broth, fishhook and float fishing, slapstick fishing with the Danube fishermen… There are boat outings organized on the Danube, but also a round table on ecology and regional tourist development, as well as an educational seminar: Contemporary World Trends in Tourist Film Production, designed for tourist workers from Serbia. |

The Festival is organized in cooperation with the partners who have direct interest in realizing such programmes: National Tourism Organization of Serbia, Tourist Organization of Veliko Gradište, Belgrade School of Tourism, Singidunum University, Serbian Association of Employers, Silver Lake Investment company which has been the biggest investor in Silver Lake tourism over the last years… |

Although there are several dozens of TV channels in Serbia nowadays, they hardly ever show ecology and tourist films. That is why SILAFEST is an ideal place where tourist workers, ecology experts, professors and students, as well as the visitors can see features from the ultimate world production of such type of films. |

Tourist films, and particularly ecology films, are rare in Serbia, because too little is invested in this type of production. Since our films can hardly compare to world films in quality and rich production, the Festival Council decided to put a special focus on Serbian film. Therefore, besides the Festival Grand Prix and Golden and Silver Wave awards for best films in the categories, the International jury will give the special Golden Pincum award for best Serbian features in the area of ecology and tourism. The Jury will award the best original features in the fields of directing, editing, and original film score with White Acacia award. |

Besides for TV companies, professional producers and directors, the competition part of SILAFEST is also open for local tourist organizations, non-governmental organizations and associations, individuals who practice ecology or tourism as a hobby or for the love of it…
